YuYu Yuan

YuYu Yuan is the head coach of the Monta Vista Speech team. She has competed and coached in nearly every Speech and Debate event. As a competitor, YuYu was the Oratory Champion and Extemp semifinalist at MLK Logan, a three-time national qualifier, a State Champion in both Original Oratory and Public Forum, and an NIETOC semifinalist. As a coach, she has led students to outrounds at both local and national tournaments. YuYu earned her BA in Ethnic Studies and graduated with honors in Anthropology from Stanford University. Outside of Speech and Debate, she enjoys baking, crocheting, and binge-watching Netflix shows.

Terri Ettinger

Terri Ettinger is an Impromptu and Extemp Speech Coach at Monta Vista High School and has also coached OO, HI and DI. She is an active member of ToastMasters for over ten years and served as its President. Terri is also a Speech judge for FBLA, CLASH and ToastMaster competitions. Prior to ToastMasters, Terri worked in sales and helped establish a tech company’s first office in Europe which was later acquired by a multinational firm. She has an MBA from Santa Clara University.

Eric Lee

Eric Lee is a Speech coach at Monta Vista High School. As a member of the Monta Vista Speech team, he won 1st place at the National Speech & Debate Tournament and was ranked #1 in California for Impromptu Speaking. Throughout his competitive career, Eric earned top-3 finishes at 21 tournaments, including 1st place titles at Berkeley and James Logan. He holds a B.S. in Data Science and an M.S. in Computer Science from Stanford University, with distinction, and currently works as a software product manager at Tesla. When he’s not coaching, Eric loves exploring recipes, leveling up in strategy games, and discovering new music.

Karl Goeltner

Karl Goeltner is an Original Speech Coach at Monta Vista High School. While competing at Monta Vista, Karl championed at CFL League 2 and SCU Dempsey Cronin Invitational (2017), qualified for the State Tournament (2019), and ranked top 10 for OO in California per the NSDA. He also earned the title of NorCal Champion at the Richard King Rotary International Speech Contest (2018). Karl holds both a B.S. and M.S. in Computer Science from UCLA. Karl currently works as a Software Engineer at a startup. In his free time, he enjoys photography, traveling, gymming, and exploring new foodie spots.

Divya Satish

Divya Satish is an Impromptu Speech Coach at Monta Vista. Despite briefly trying all of the branches, she decided Impromptu was the one for her. She quarter- and semi-finaled at the Berkeley Invitational, won 2nd place at the Stanford Invitational (2019), and qualified for the State Tournament in 2018 and 2019. Divya just graduated from UC Berkeley with a major in Bioengineering and a minor in Education. She currently lives in LA and works as a Product Engineer at a medical device company. In her free time, she loves to play video games, read, and cook!

Yashar Ivan Hadi

Yashar has stayed engaged with education and public speaking in some capacity since his first year of high school at Monta Vista. Qualifying for both the state and national tournaments in Humorous Interpretation, Yashar’s forte is coaching the interpretation events. Combined with his many years teaching Spanish, Chemistry, and Physics in the district, Yashar is a well-rounded educator and coach that seeks to holistically develop the students he’s fortunate enough to work with and himself through what his students teach him.
